Butterfly Training
Introductory training for new docents interested in leading groups for "Butterflies in the Garden." We will cover educational philosophies, background information on butterflies and work through the Butterflies and Plants program.

Docent Potluck Lunch
Sat., February 18, Noon - 1:00pm
All docents, newbies and oldtimers are welcome to come and mingle with each other. Bring your favorite dish to share and we can talk about mentoring opportunities for new docents and pair them up with someone who is crazy enough to have been doing it awhile. We can also brainstorm ideas for a seminar series and field trips!

Butterfly Refresher
Sat., February 18, 1:00-2:30pm
For experienced docents. For oldtimers wishing to learn a few new tricks and polish their repetoire!

Butterfly Training II.
Tues., February 21, 8:30 am -noon

Some classes are interested in spending an entire day learning with butterflies and others would like to study butterflies a little more in-depth. This training session covers Butterfly Experiments, Butterfly Timelines and Butterfly Migration.

Detroit Zoo Butterfly Garden Field Trip

Laura Harris, Head Keeper of Butterflies at the Detroit Zoo will lead us on a guided tour of the Butterfly Garden. Laura used to be a student at Michigan State in entomology and did some of her research in conjuction with the Michigan 4-H Children's Garden! This promises to be a lot of fun. Perhaps we can do a morning trip and find a spot for lunch in Ferndale or Royal Oak.

Seeds of Science Training I.
Weds., April 26,
8:30 am -Noon
Introductory training for new docents interested in leading Seeds of Science groups. We will cover educational philosophies, background information on the garden and work through the Important Plants program

Seeds of Science Training II.
Weds., May 3, 8:30 am -Noon
This training session will introduce docents to our Plant Problems program and many of our inquiry based experiments including the Salad Bowl Experiment and Fast Plant experiment.

Storytelling Seminar?

I would like to set up a series of seminars that related to the gardens and are a fun learning opportunity for everyone. I would love suggestions and input from everyone.
