General Information

Here is some general information to make you visit to the 4-H Children's Gardens something really special. There is no admission fee to visit the gardens.

Summer 2019 - Parking Lot Construction

4-H Children's Garden Visitor Parking will be available in the Wharton Center parking ramp (Ramp #3) during construction at the gardens.   The fee is $2 per hour.  The Wharton ramp requires either payment at the pay stations, or a parking permit, Monday - Friday from 6am until 10pm.  Visitors must pay immediately upon parking by walking to one of the pay stations, entering the license plate number of their vehicle, and then their payment.  The pay stations accept credit cards or US coin, $1, or $5 bills.  The pay stations do not give change back, nor are refunds issued for time paid for, but not used.   The ramp is located at 750 E Shaw Ln, East Lansing, MI 48824 and can be accessed using Shaw Lane or Wilson road entrance.

Outdoor 4-H Children's Gardens

The gardens are open from sunup to sundown every day.

Indoor 4-H Children's Garden

The Indoor garden is open 8am to 4pm on weekdays and from 10am to 4pm on weekends. You will have to enter the building through the doors on the south side (under the teal colored awning). Once inside, follow the green vine on the floor.

We are in the Plant & Soil Sciences Building which is located on the corner of Wilson Road and Bogue Street on the campus of Michigan State University. (We are across from the Vet Clinic and kitty corner from the Wharton Center). We look forward to seeing you!


Parking costs are not included in our event and program fees. 

The meters in the Horticulture Gardens parking lot are in effect from 7am to 10pm, Monday through Friday.  You must park in a space designated as a "Pay by Plate" parking space.  Parking in a space not marked as "Pay by Plate" may result in a parking violation.  Immediately after parking, go to the SPOTON pay station or use the MSU SPOTON app to enter your license plate number.  Pay stations accept cash payment or credit cards.  The stations do not give change back nor are refunds issued for time paid for, but not used.

Parking meters are not in effect on Saturday or Sunday.



There is a restroom located between the 4-H Children's Garden and the Pete & Sally Smith Schoolyard Demonstration Garden. This is available from early April through October.

Inside the Plant & Soil Sciences Building

There are restrooms available between 8am and 5pm every day. Enter the building through the south entrance, under the teal awning, and follow the blue line on the floor.

Eating in the Gardens

We invite you to enjoy a meal in the 4-H Children's Gardens!

We encourage you to eat in the Creation Station area. Make sure you use trash receptacles. Unfortunately there is no drinking water available, so bring your own drinks.
